Why Here?
When choosing the perfect location for your team to meet, fellowship, and learn, you are looking for more than state-of-the-art facilities and great housing. You join with us in our mission of meeting the needs of thousands of underprivileged children throughout North & South Carolina through The Salvation Army's camping program held right here at Camp Walter Johnson every summer.
Since 1974, Camp Walter Johnson has been a safe haven for children who have come to enjoy scouting camps, life-skills camps, and music camps. Your stay with us not only ensures that you will be treated as a guest in our home, but also provides a way for the summer program that has been serving children through scouting, life-skills camps, and music camps.
Imagine what a week at summer camp could do for an underprivileged or at-risk child. Or a troubled youth who's never known life away from the streets. For thousands of children, a week at a Salvation Army summer camp can be life-changing. The Salvation Army Camp Walter Johnson offers a place where eyes are opened, lives are enriched, souls are nurtured, and a change of environment, with unforgettable experiences and newfound hope.
For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has recognized the restorative power of nature. Salvation Army camping frees youthful imaginations trapped in the concrete, noise, and pollution of our inner-cities. It restores peace of body and mind to weary parents, and creates undistracted time in which families can bond.
Many successful individuals write letters to local offices saying how attending a Salvation Army camp was the turning point in their life. Memories are made and friendships are formed that can literally last a lifetime.
Why here? Because you are helping change lives and having a great time doing it!
